Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is an integrated circuit, designed to be configured by a customer or a designer after manufacturing, which could be tailored to optimise the processing of specific functions. This may include constructing specific type of bitcoin transactions.

It is similar to an Application Specific Integrated Circuit except the function they will perform is set when it was produced.
